Family law is a term, which is being used to define a uniform law, which covers a variety of aspects related to divorce and marriage. The roots of family law were created during 1970s and they evolved significantly along with time. Before the introduction of family laws, we could only see a law based on European Feudalism.
Before 1900s, husband was provided with ownership of all properties inherited by wife after marriages. However, significant changes to this law was introduced during the 1970s. This trend continued along with time and it was announced in 1987 that no fault divorces will be recognized. The divorce process was adopted to become easier during this time as well. However, some of the traditional advocates opposed this.
Child custody agreements and laws were also subjected to changes during this time. In fact, the laws that are related to joint custody came up. Therefore, both mother and father were provided with equal chances of getting custody of the little one. Due to these changes, the role played by family law solicitors became more prominent as well.
